Venezuela is situated on the northern coast of South America. It is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean to the north, the small country of Guyana to the east, to the south lies Brazil, and to the east is Colombia. In the north-west of Venezuela there are the Andes Mountains and Maracaibo Lowlands; the central plains and Guiana Highlands are located in the south-east. The continent's largest inland lake is Lake Maracaibo, the highest point is Pico Bolivar. The country's climate is predominantly tropical. The dry season lasts from December to April; the rest of the year is characterized by wet weather and even rainfalls, which cause the floods.
